Letter From The Superintendent – Community

For over twenty years, I have been very proud to call the South Williamsport Area School District my home.  My journey with the district started as a United States history teacher in 1997.  Wanting to work directly with staff, I moved into administration to oversee special education, district curriculum, and eventually transitioned to assistant superintendent.  In 2011, I was appointed district superintendent.  In that time, I have had the distinct pleasure to work with great kids, amazing families, and talented colleagues.

South Williamsport Area School District has a stellar reputation for providing a solid education to all students. However, after spending the last eighteen months developing a new strategic plan for the district, I can also say, we are not satisfied.  Multiple planning committees invested countless hours to articulate what we want our schools to become.  We created a renewed vision for our schools that focuses on educating every child, to a very high level, in every classroom, every day.  We envision a school where deep learning of essential skills is more important than quantity, breadth, and pace.  We envision a school where the learning needs of a child are never second to a test score.  We believe in a school where the synergy of professional teams is leveraged for student success.  Finally, we believe that productive transparent communication between the school and families is essential

for students.

The vision we cast for 2017 through 2022 is a plan of constant forward momentum.  As I consider what is already in motion, I am excited to see what lies ahead.  I encourage you to stay informed with what is happening inside the schools through the district Facebook page, the news links on the main web page, or for families, through the parent link system.

Mark Stamm, D.Ed.
